At the invitation of artist Achim Lengerer, the participating artists collaborated on the exhibition the film as a page of victor hugo rewritten in the style of nerval. The show is not an exhibition on film or video, but like a transparency, like a piece of celluloid, the production process of all the featured works has, in either conceptual or material terms, a moment of passing through or of watching or visiting the cinema or the cinematic apparatus and its cultural figuration. This moment is not clearly legible, comprehensible or decipherable in all of the works, but some working methods display a way of thinking that has seeped into the production process (maybe long before the actual, concrete artistic act) like a memory that clings to things and people when a glance catches them with lowered eyes. This memory may be political, private, intellectual, neurotic, cultural-historical or social in nature, or, and this is to be assumed, it is all of them together in the same fraction of a second.
